The App We Can’t Live Without

Gear Tips and Tricks
There’s an app that made our road trip so easy, we sometimes just stop and say, “This app is amazing.”  It’s the Camp and RV Allstays app.  It’s available for Apple or Android and it’s AWESOME!!!

So what features does this thing have?  A better questions is “what doesn’t this thing have?” It’s basically a map that can track your location and has a filter that allows you search for nearby places you can stop for the night (campgrounds, national/state/local parks, Walmart parking lots, BLM), dump stations, Flying Js, Pilots, and other travel centers, and outdoor stores such as Bass Pro Shops, REI, and Camping World, and even Costcos, Cracker Barrels, and places that sell propane.  There are a ton of other things you can select in the filter.

These locations show up on the map as icons, so you can see if it’s along the route you’re driving on.  And when you click on the icons, it gives you information such as how far the location is from you and a brief description of it.  This description includes the address, phone number, some $$$ to indicate how expensive it is, a list of amenities, and even one sentence reviews from other users.  These quick reviews from other users was especially helpful when we were planning on staying in a Walmart parking lot- users would comment on how safe it felt, if they were bothered by management while parked, and even if open WiFi was around.

For the road tripper, like us, who really just wants to go without a rigid plan, this app is for you!!! Most of the features are available even without cell phone service (though tracking your location would not work, but there is a manual lookup option).

It’s easy to use, but here’s a quick guide to it:

Here’s what it looks like when you filter for parks and campgrounds:

Simply “check” what you’d like to see, hit the Check Mark in the upper right hand corner, and view the icons on the map around you.

Here’s a picture of the details you can view for a campground.  Similar details are provided for any icon you select.

When we bought it, it was $9.99.  We don’t regret paying that much for an app at all.  Allstays was a lifesaver when we were just looking for a quick place to stop for the night or when we needed to find an inexpensive campground with a dump station.  The details provide a phone number, so it’s easy to call and double check on the amenities and price.
